Good Bye to WiiOS

If you haven't already, read this post.

It has come time to say goodbye to this project. There's just no interest in it and trying to optimize stuff for viewing on a Wii is hard. So I'm ending this once and for all. I honestly never expected this to be big and have been thinking of closing it for a while now. Today it's official. I'll be leaving this blog up but just don't expect any activity. I've stopped getting weekly page view reports and will no longer be accepting comments. Any comments will be rejected and as you'll soon see, will be turned off in full.

So for those of you who did take a look here, thanks for looking. I hope you'll understand this choice of mine.

Good bye,
  France Hopper

Just a few things you should know...

After doing some research it appears our name conflicts with another project.

This WiiOS project was created for trying to make an iGoogle home page optomized for Wii, along with a few other things as well.

If you are looking for the WiiOS application that is supposed to look like a Wii console on a computer, you have landed in the wrong place my friend.

That being said, a few things are going to change.
1) We might be moving this page and a few others to a new home page (details to come)
2) The iGoogle tab hasn't been updated in... well forever. It may or may not receive any updates it is depending on a lot of stuff right now.
3) Clearly we're going to need a name change. Any suggestions would be welcome (please leave in a comment)
4) We are currently not taking anymore requests to receive the iGoogle tab.
5) This project might shut down completely, depending on how things go. However, don't expect any updates for a while.

Thanks for you interest in this project and good bye for now!

Yes we are finally updating WiiOS!

Not much of an update though. We've desidied to up the number as we have finnaly begun work on Wii Media. The service for Wii is currently in BETA and will be on and off throughtout today as we will be working on finding the perfect player setup. If you like the WiiOS services on your computer, Wii Media has a special page now computers http://francehopper.googlepages.com/wiimediapc

As for the Wii part of the Wii Media service, we'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: Wii Media- Wii Version
We have found that the service we were using to create pages with does not support flash content. We've also found the Wii Opera browser does not support some forms of embed content. That being said, we are now trying posting link to an external page to play the approate player. This is yet another BETA and of course my go down for any reason. For more info click here.

WiiOS progress update.

So it looks like I'm not really doing any updates to the WiiOS project. Well hate to admit it but it's true. With school approaching I've been really busy. The other thing is the updates or rather gadgets that I'm looking to have in the next update I've yet to find Wii Compadable.

What I'm currently looking for:
1) More Wii compadable games to put on the Games for Wii page.
2) A media player that gets music from an online playlist or internet radio channel. What I'm hopeing is that I can find one that will let you listen to your music on your computer via a playlist stored on your homepage. Actually Orb is a desent service that already does this. What Orb is is that it's a free program that brodcasts your music, vidoes, pictures, even TV (although laggy so I recommend recorded TV) if your computer has a TV tunner. It can be a little buggy and hard to set up but it does have a special UI when you logon to your channel via the Wii's internet channel. None the less, it's a nice program when it works that lets you take your media with you so long as you have an internet connection.

That's all for now. I do hope to find something good just to get anothe version out there but it is very limited as the Wii can only do html some flash ans abit of Java (might do others but haven't found out yet).

Wii Update- Internet stability

Minor update lauched yesterday that stops the Wii from locking up on the internet channel when you hit the rest buttions. Also has improved stability when connecting through a LAN adapter.

WiiOS news- still work but with school approaching I've been busy with other things. Just thought I'd let you all know seeing as I've actually had a vote on the polls on the right hand side of the screen. Please vote as it will help improve the quality of WiiOS! Thanks!

100 Miis

100. That`s as many Miis you can have as I found out today. Pretty darn LAME! I hope Nintendo does an update where you can have as many Miis as you can fit on your hard drive and SD card.

WiiOS Google Group Launched!

Well in spite of 77 visits and 101 page views, I've desided to also open a Google Group for the WiiOS project. It just launched so there's not much to see right now. Hopp you'll join and see you soon!

You can subscribe by entering your email at the Subscribe box on the bottom of this blog.

Wii v3.0US- New Update for Wii!

There's a new update for the Wii Menu today, for the US it's 3.0. I don't know about other countries. You'll need to get it to keep using the Internet channels (shop, news, weather, Internet).

It's totally cool and worth it.

Here's the run down:
Major updates to Wii menu-
Weather Channel's icon is now the current Weather Condition
News channel displays latest news
Wii Message Board- System messages/memos are now White Envelops; Internet messages (Wii buddies, Nintendo Update Alerts) are in yellow.
Time Now displayed
Slightly faster loading settings and Wii shop
Wii shop-
Search by name, publisher, system, genere. Also most popular and newest additions.
New welcome screen that displays 4 latest additions (Name, a pic that you can actually make out for once, system, and cost). Also has a box for important messages. Upon updating there are 3:
Newest games
Search features Added
Gameplay videos on wii.nintendo.com (I wish they were right in the Wii Shop).

Inserting and removing a disk makes the slot flash blue (Watch for it. It's cool)

That's it! Enjoy! I'll try working more on WiiOS now as I see I've gotten quite a few visitors from around the world. Now hopefully Nintendo won't shut me down...

Progress

First off, yes I actually do have a life. And no I don't sleep in my mom's basement. Anyhoo, despite no requests to have WiiOS sent to them, I'm still working on it. The next to come is an entire Arcade of Wii Compadable games. Originally I planned to put them on the WiiOS tab, but with the current plan, things would be come much too crampt. Also, if you're thinking just because the WiiOS iGoogle tab is made by me means you can't customize it to your needs, you are so wrong. Go ahead and make it yours, spice it up with as many gadgets as you want and even move things arround, change the theme is you really want to. Again, to get it all you have to do is leave a comment to any post by clicking the comments link under any post (Currently reads 0 comments). Simply leave your email or if you prefer, email me directly at francehopper@gmail.com. Users and users that leave feedback would really make my day and prove to me I'm not wasting my time here.

Also, once the page full of Wii compadable games is done, the version will become 0.1.3 despite no changes or new gadgets really being added.

WiiOS Theme is finished!

Yes I've finally finished the WiiOS iGoogle theme. However, due to sumbition issues, the them is currently not up and running. I'm also now going to start work again on finding Wii Compadable Gadgets. If I find enough and the theme problems are solved, beta 0.2 will be launched. Currently there are um.. no users at all, but hopefully people will start checking this out. Screenshots should be uploaded tomorrow to give you all a better idea of what this is. I've installed Google Analitics on here so I'll know what's being done. If you find this site, please tell your friends about it as it is not for profit, no ads, and can only be spread at this time via word of mouth.

Public beta 0.1.1 is here. Ok so you`re thinking "No news on public beta release date, hm? Then what is this!?"

Well, we`ve made enough progress to consider it. Gmail, WiiNote, Google Calander, and YouTube Player... Not much but it`s growing. To request an invite leave a comment to this post with your email and we`ll send it to you.

WiiNote is back!

That`s right, we`ve found a Wii compadable note gadget made by Google. Now easy and relible service can be expected.
Open beta news: beta 0.1 will not be an open beta. The first open beta will be 0.1.1
We are now looking for a music playback gadget that works with Wii. Also, work has started on the WiiOS iGoogle theme after much planning! No date for the next beta release yet...

Open BETA delayed...

The public beta 0.1 has been delayed as the gadget that was to be used for notes has been found incompadable with the Wii Browser. We are looking for an alternative one.

Welcome to WiiOS!

Welcome to WiiOS Beta 0.1! WiiOS is still be worked on and is being designed to be fully Wii compadable. WiiOS uses iGoogle and Google Gadgets. This version incudes email via GMail, and a calander via Google Calandar.

---------------
Like all things, WiiOS requires some setup. The time it takes depends on who your are.

1) WiiOS is designed for the Wii's Opera Browser from the Wii Shop channel. While a Wii is not required, it defeats the purpose of WiiOS is you don't have one, DUH!
2) WiiOS requires you to have a Google Account, preferably one that comes with Gmail access.
3) If you don't have a Google Account, sign up for one via Gmail at mail.google.com or gmail.com
4) Once you have a Google Account, request the iGoogle tab to be sent to you by posting a comment here and leaving your email address. We will not sell you email address to anyone and is used solely for send the iGoogle tab to your emial so you can add it to your iGoogle home page.
5) WiiOS currently is in beta and therefore has a limited set of features. Since I'm currently the only one working on this project, updates will be slow and will take time. Also as there are only a limited ammount of features, this is currently a closed beta however, you can request the tab and an invite to be sent to you.
